AS little Zane Brown watched the television from his hospital bed his eyes lit up.

"See mummy, it's me," he exclaimed excitedly.

The three-year-old Rockhampton boy, who featured in The Morning Bulletin in August, has been in the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane since May battling neuroblastoma, a rare form of children's cancer.

Earlier this month the hospital received a special visit from the Today Show crew, including Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson.

The team were there to promote the Channel Nine Children's Hospital Telethon, which aimed to raise more than $9 million for the Children's Hospital Foundation and the new Lady Cilento Children's Hospital opening later this year.

"When I heard Channel Nine were coming I didn't think it would actually be Karl or Lisa," Zane's mum Kristie Burns said last week.

"When I saw them I was like 'oh my god, they're real celebrities'."

Kristie said it was wonderful to see them get behind such an important cause.

"We went on a tour of the new hospital on Sunday," she said.

"It's amazing - maybe even a little too fancy for us."

Kristie said the Today team were really friendly, particularly Karl, who is a former Rocky resident.

"They were just like normal people," she said.

Last week, Zane started a high-dose round of chemotherapy.

Kristie said he will be in isolation for up to six weeks, but his road to recovery doesn't end there.

She said they expect to be down in Brisbane for at least another 12 months.
