Opinion: Time to step forward
ANYTHING that is going to bring cheaper flights to our region - and more of them - has got to be a good thing.
So news today that there are negotiations and discussions afoot to do just that will be well received throughout the community.
If this is to be a region we want to be open for business, then access is vital. Whatever the pillar of our economy, competitive transportation costs - especially airfares - play an important role.
And every facet of the community has a role to play in crafting a compelling case to attract as many services, at the best prices, as possible.
We cannot afford to just let the weight of this issue fall on the shoulders of our tourism, council and airport representatives. Certainly, they will shoulder the lion's share of the burden, but they need all-of-community support and a consolidated approach.
To let an opportunity like this slip away at this point would not do anyone any favours. In fact it is as simple as this: we just cannot afford to.
Reasonably-priced airfares and access to a variety of well-timed flights will spell good news for all of us, so time to step up to the plate.
We have seen too many of our services snatched from our grasp.
We can ill afford to allow any more to go.
Ask now, what can you do to help secure this service - and moreover, what can you do to be a part of our region's recovery?
It's everyone's business.
