Time for digital

IN LESS than five months, analog television signals will be permanently switched off in Northern NSW and about 15% of homes are not yet ready for digital TV.

Those 15% will need to be digital ready by the switchover date of November 27 - to continue watching free-to-air TV.

Most people have converted at least their main TV, the latest Digital Tracker survey states.

For most households who haven't yet made the switch, conversion will be relatively straightforward. Residents can either connect a set-top box or digital recorder to an existing analog TV or upgrade to a digital TV.

Executive director of the Digital Switchover Taskforce, Nerida O'Loughlin said time was running out, the time for action is fast approaching.

"We recently held an information session in Coffs Harbour to give local residents the opportunity to ask any questions they may have about making the switch to digital TV," she said.

"While in the area, we also met with local community groups and businesses who will be our partners over the coming months in making sure Coffs Harbour is ready for the switch."

Residents who need help getting ready for the switch to digital TV can visit the Digital Ready website at digitalready.gov.au or call the Digital Ready information line on 1800 20 10 13.
