Timber truck fire forces highway closure

THE trailer of a timber truck was left damaged after the vehicle caught alight on the Leichhardt Highway near Goondiwindi overnight.

A spokeswoman from Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said two fire crews and a senior officer were called to the scene about 15km north of Goondiwindi about 9.15pm.

The highway was forced to close in both directions for several hours.

The driver of the truck reportedly detached the trailer from the vehicle, leaving it undamaged.

Crews brought the fire under control about 11.50pm last night.

No one sustained injuries in the incident.
