PASSING through Kempton, heading north, we ran into Kelson Gale from Devonport, though he is originally from Smithton.

He was driving a Transport Sales and Hire 2012 4800FX Western Star Constellation with a 500 DDIS Detroit up front.

He was towing a box from Devonport down to Hobart and would return back to Bell Bay with another load the next day.

"I've been with Mark for just over 12 months now and really enjoy the work and the variety,” he said. "We carry everything from containers to heavy equipment. We have been carrying wind farm components up to Granville Harbour, through where the fires have been. It's a bit of a mess just now with the hills all black and bare.”

"Previous to this job I was towing logs out of Strahan on the west coast for a couple of years.

"I've been driving for 17 years or so now, mainly heavy machinery etc, but I grew up in and around trucks and tractors on the farm, and so guess it's in the blood. Mark is a great guy to work for, and I am really enjoying the job, and the variety of the work. It's all good, no regrets.”

As for time off, he said he liked to tinker with his motorbikes.
