'They will book truckies for minor things'

VETERAN driver Glenn Cummings was next to his Kenworth 909 when Big Rigs saw him beside the Townsville Port Access Road.

The 58-year-old Glenn works for Lumbars Transport from their Mt Garnet depot on the Atherton Tablelands.

Glenn had hauled minerals to Townsville Port and said he been a truckie for more than three decades.

"I live at Innott Hot Springs on the Atherton Tablelands and often sit in the water there,” he said.

A Cowboys supporter in the NRL, Glenn the number of scalies on the highways was increasing.

"They will book truckies for minor things and many van drivers and P-plate car drivers cause problems,” he said.

The first truck Glenn drove was a Flintstone Mack and outside work he loves riding his Harley Davidson bike.

I asked Glenn what changes he had seen when driving the highways and byways.

"I don't see many hitchhikers anymore,” he said.

Glenn likes the food and good service at the Greenvale Roadhouse.
