THE U.G.L.Y BARTENDER
BLACKWATER bartender Cassie Chapman has raised more than $5000 for charity U.G.L.Y Bartender.
The charity is the Leukaemia Foundation's hospitality industry fundraising competition which encourages bartenders to raise funds for the cause.
The annual event began in 2009 and stands for Understanding Generous Likeable You.
Cassie started fundraising at her workplace, the Blackwater Hotel Motel, in August with the fundraiser drawing to a close this Monday, September 12.
Cassie said she was excited to raise money for such a good cause.
"There was no real reason why I decided to fundraise,” Cassie said.
"I helped out a friend a few years ago and decided I wanted to do it again. It's the least I can do for a great charity.”
Originally, Cassie's goal was to reach $3000 in donations however she has far surpassed that number through her tiresome efforts and the generosity of visitors.
She has been dedicated to raising as much money as possible throughout the event. She has even been hosting a barbecue every Saturday night at the pub.
Along with selling promotional merchandise, Cassie has run different competitions, such as meat vouchers and number boards.
Cassie said she was delighted with the response of the patrons and staff.
"Everyone has so supportive. They've all been helping out and it's going really well,” Cassie said.
There will be one final push for donations at a beach party held at Blackwater Hotel Motel tomorrow from 9pm.
There will be a gold coin donation entry fee for the party which will go towards Cassie's fundraiser.
It will be a fantastic night where you can sing your heart out with karaoke or go in the draw to win a lucky door prize.
All of the money raised by Cassie will go to the Leukaemia Foundation to help support its accommodation complexes.
These complexes provide free accommodation for regional people who have to relocate to capital cities while they are receiving treatment.
