Yamba Triathlon launched
YAMBA is once again on the hit list to host a round of the Elite Energy TriSeries.
Some of Australia's best triathletes are expected to be lured to the idyllic setting of the Clarence River foreshore for the third annual Yamba Triathlon Festival on February 27.
Last year since Yamba hosted the 2014/15 season opener in early September. While that event was hailed a success, Clarence Valley Triathlon Club vice president Darren Adams said the new date was very positive news for Yamba.
"There is nothing else scheduled for the weekend in February so we hope to tap into the Brisbane and Queensland market more," Adams said.
"Everyone was definitely happy last year, but we knew it could be bigger. Being later in the season we have more time and resources to promote the event, it will be in daylight saving and a better water temperature."
Clarence Valley Mayor Richie Williamson was at the official launch at Whiting Beach this week where he announced sponsorship to the value of $10,000 for the third year running.
"We can't wait to welcome all the competitors and their families and cheer them along," Cr Williamson said.
"It's a great sporting event and one of our flagships in the sports tourism program, which is all about attracting visitors to the area to boost the local economy."
TriYamba will form part of an 11-race series kicked off by Challenge Forster on November 7 and concludes on May 21 with the Port Stephens Triathlon Festival.
Elite Energy CEO Mark Emerton believes Yamba provides an ideal and natural landscape for long distance events and is excited to be returning to this coastal hotspot in 2016.
"We're very grateful for the likes of Clarence Valley Council to ensure we could return to Yamba next year," Emerton said.
"It's such a great destination and definitely one of our growing events."
Six separate races will be held including the signature Standard distance, the high speed Sprint, the more welcoming distances of the Enticer and Enforcer, the Miniman for the kids as well as 2km and 5km fun runs.
Registrations are now open. For all the latest on the event and the entire 2015/16 series visit http://www.eliteenergy.com.au.
THE 2015/16 Clarence Valley Triathlon Club season kicks off on September 20 with a duathlon (run, ride, run) event.
