DRAG RACING: AFTER major cyclone damage earlier in the year, the Palmyra Drag Racing Club is off and racing again.

"We have been going for 50 years and we are not going to stop,” club president Glenn Cunningham said.

Cyclone damage forced the track length to be reduced to an eighth mile from the standard quarter mile.

The club missed out on recovery funding after the funding zone boundary was drawn only several kilometres to the north and west.

Despite the exclusion from funds, the club has been determined to get back on its feet and repair the damage themselves.

The track is now back to its full quarter mile for street race cars and motorbikes.

Cunningham said there was more work to be done to have high speed cars race the quarter mile.

He said the club now required full support by street car racers and spectators in order to collect funds to complete repairs, so that top speed race cars could race the full quarter mile for the club's 50th year celebrations in 2018.

The club will hold a 'Race your mates and Off Tap Burnout' meeting on October 28 to officially open the quarter mile race track and a new burnout pad allowing drivers to burn some rubber.
