THE first time children's entertainer Simon Pryce put on the famous red skivvy he felt a bit like a superhero.

Mr Pryce, who had been touring with The Wiggles as Ringo the Ringmaster for many years, stepped into a new role as the Red Wiggle this year after three of the band's original members hung up their famous skivvies for good.

Along with original Blue Wiggle Anthony Field, Mr Pryce and Purple Wiggle Lachlan Gillespie and Yellow Wiggle Emma Watkins have created a new era of The Wiggles.

The new members of the band performed for the first time in Toowoomba today during The Wiggles Taking Off! tour.

Mr Pryce, who had known the members of the band for a long time before jumping into the costume himself, said he spent a year as a "Wiggle in training" before hitting the stage in his red skivvy.

"I look a bit like Murray (the previous Red Wiggle) so I think Anthony finds it a little strange when we're on stage," he said.

He said his first performance of the Red Wiggle was met with positive feedback.

"Everyone seems to be thankful The Wiggles will continue for a long time," he said. "It's great to be able to entertain and educate children, that's really what it's all about."
