Average Aussie family's summer holiday cost $1400 this year
THE average Australian family is expected to have spent $1400 on their main summer holiday this year, with the vast majority staying in the country.
Tourism and Transport Forum research found more than four-fifths of residents planned to stay on Australian soil over the break.
"Victorians expect to spend the most money, estimating their holiday would cost just over $1500, followed by New South Welshmen ($1470), West Australians ($1363), South Australians ($1336) and Queenslanders ($1204). Tasmanians ($902) expect to spend the least," TTF chief executive Margy Osmond said.
"While most will choose a local summery holiday, at least one in seven will travel overseas looking for a white Christmas."
