Teen MasterChef coming to Rocky
CQUNIVERSITY'S aspiring chefs are in for a treat when they team up with MasterChef star Laura Cassai for a series of free cooking demonstrations.
Still a teenager, Laura is hoping her visit to Rockhampton next month will help other aspiring chefs to reach their goals.
"I was studying an education degree before I got into MasterChef, and I still love teaching people and inspiring people," Laura said.
"So I'm really excited to meet all the CQUniversity students who are on their way to becoming chefs and creating careers in hospitality."
Originally from Melbourne, Laura is working her way up from a junior chef role at Jock Zonfrillo's Restaurant Orana in Adelaide.
She is also promoting her first cookbook, My Italian Kitchen, and looks forward to one day opening a cooking school to inspire children to get into the kitchen.
"Everything I've done since MasterChef has been like going back to school," Laura said. "I'm learning so much about different cuisine and different techniques.
"I'm all about local and seasonal produce, and what's available then and there … it would be great if every region was like that."
Laura will be at Willby's Training Restaurant at CQUniversity Rockhampton City for free demonstrations on Tuesday, June 2, from 4-5.30pm, and on Wednesday, June 3, from 10.30am-noon.
