Teen housemate in court over shower recording

A 17-YEAR-OLD Rockhampton man fronted court yesterday after allegedly recording his housemate showering through the floorboards of their bathroom.

Benjamin Michael Jenkins entered no plea in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court to one count of breach of privacy.

Duty lawyer Matthew Heelan made an application for bail on the defendant's behalf, which was opposed by police.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Sean Franklin said Jenkins had admitted to police he recorded the complainant in the shower using a mobile phone.

Sgt Franklin said the phone was found in his possession and the recordings were still on it.

The court heard Jenkins was on bail at the time for other offences, but had no convictions on his history.

Initially, Mr Heelan submitted his client would have to return to the share house, if released.

However, after a short adjournment he was able to secure Jenkins accommodation at the Salvation Army housing in Rockhampton.

Bail was granted with strict conditions.
