A WOMAN who died in an apparent murder-suicide attempt at Burnett Heads early on Sunday has been described by colleagues as "a little ray of sunshine" who lived for her teen son.

Rebecca Doran, a Jenny Craig weight loss consultant, was found dead in her Kelly St home about 12.30am Sunday after police received a 000 call.

Jenny Craig franchisee Harry Mowson said Ms Doran's death had "totally shattered" her colleagues.

"Bec was a beautiful lady with a loving and caring personality," he said.

"She was a really beautiful woman who cared about her clients.

"The best way to describe her was as a little ray of sunshine."

Mr Mowson said Ms Doran had worked part-time at the Bundaberg office for several years.

"We're all totally shattered and just trying to come to grips with this," he said.

"Our clients will be shattered because she was a much-loved member of our staff.

"We all loved her and we're all a bit numb - whenever she walked into a room she brightened it up."

Mr Mowson said Ms Doran had a 16-year-old son.

"She lived for her boy. She just adored him," he said.

"This is a terrible tragedy and the most horrible situation I've ever encountered in my working life."

Ms Doran's partner, Stephen Casey, remains in a critical condition at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, where staff are fighting to keep him alive.

An ambulance spokesman said Mr Casey, a painter, had suffered gunshot wounds to the head.

He was rushed to Bundaberg Hospital with life-threatening injuries on Sunday morning before he was flown to Brisbane for treatment about noon.

Police were yesterday remaining tight-lipped about the investigation as forensic officers continued to examine the crime scene.

Bundaberg police Inspector Kev Guteridge would not confirm how Ms Doran had died, or on wide speculation her death was the result of a murder-suicide attempt.

"We are waiting on the results of a post-mortem examination," he said.

Insp Guteridge said officers were "very anxious to speak to a male person", but would not confirm if that man was Mr Casey.
