Tassie Truckin': Ricky Edson
AT THE young age of 24, Ricky Edson has plenty of experience as a truckie and is a chip off the old block following in the footsteps of his dad Don.
Ricky was driving a DAF CF85 for Rayner Transport hauling general goods when Big Rigs met up with him at the 24-hour Mood Food Roadhouse at Kempton in Tasmania.
"My dad has been a truckie for many years and drives a much smaller Isuzu up at Georgetown,” Ricky said.
Launceston-based Ricky said the DAF, which is powered by a 460hp motor and has a 12-speed automatic gearbox, was wonderful to drive.
Football fan Ricky barracks for the Melbourne Demons in the AFL and when he gets time off, he enjoys fishing for flathead off Bridport.
"I get to travel all around Tasmania and love driving trucks. When I wake up every morning I think how lucky I am and Rayners really look after their drivers,” he said.
Ricky stops off at the Caltex Mood Food and the Epping Forest Roadhouse whenever he can and said it was good that many parts of the Midlands Hwy connecting Launceston and Hobart was being fixed up.
