Nick Fish

GRABBING a quick bite to eat up at Kempton the other day, we caught up with Nick Fish from Outlands when he dropped in for a cuppa and bite to eat, with his off sider our old mate Barry Clarke (also from Oatlands, pictured right) who was lending a willing hand for the day.

Nick was driving his 2001 FH 12 Volvo 460, rigid with a load of logs, from Ross down to Mangalore and then back to Oatlands. He tells us he has been in the "log" business for 35 years now, but as an owner/driver for the past two years and he is in fact loving it, both the work and also being his own boss in a field he is so familiar with. He was also rapt in the Volvo, telling us it has done 1.3 million kilometres so far and is running like clockwork.

"We had to put her over the shaker only yesterday," he added, "and she sailed through, not a problem". Both men were more than happy with the milder autumn weather as well.
