Tassie Truckin': Neil Shires

"IT'S really good to be heading home to Launceston after a couple of days away working around Hobart and Dunalley on the Tasman Peninsula,” Neil Shires told us one sunny afternoon.

We ran into the cheery driver when we stopped in at the Epping Forest Caltex.

He was driving a PBH 2008 T-908 Kenworth with a C-15 Cat up front.

The combination was showing off a Drake float at the time.

"I have been with PBH for about eight years now and they are a great crowd to work for and it's a good job all round,” Neil said.

"I have been on the road for, well, let's say far too long.

"But honestly, it's been a top job and a good, honest way to earn a living and, if I had to start out, I'd probably do it all again.”

Time off, he said, was hopefully time to get the motorbike revved up.

He takes out the motorbike every chance he gets.
