Tassie Truckin' - Kent Armstrong

IT WAS a beautiful day in Collinsvale in Southern Tasmania the other day when we caught up with Kent Armstrong from Carlton coming out of the gate of a property in Mill Rd where he had spread a bit of superphosphate ahead of a forecast rain.

He was driving a Quinn Transport and Spreading 2013 MAN TGM-340 and happily found time for a few words with us.

"This is seriously a top job,” he told us.

"I've been here working for Darren for seven years now, and he operates top, really well maintained gear, and looks after his crew, while simultaneously building up business for the company all the time.

"This means that we are out in the field, literally, all over Tasmania; a great way to see the state and meet interesting people along the way. Also this job is high on job satisfaction and customer satisfaction; the two often go hand in hand.

"I've been on the road driving for 15 years or so now, I started out when I was 18 doing Interstate in a rigid, progressing up to semi-trailers doing mainly Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and all points between.

"It was so good to come back to Tasmania and getting this job, as averaging 250 days a year away from home was not ideal when you have a wife and young family.”

He added he is a Saints supporter, and time off is spent wherever possible with his family.
