PASSING through Kempton the other day, we stopped over for an excellent light meal and a cuppa there, when we were fortunate to catch up with Evan Lyons from Grove when he dropped in for a quick break.
He was driving a very tidy TasTrans 2008 Western Star Constellation at the time with a 430 Detroit up front and towing a refrigerated Tautliner.
He told us he was enjoying doing the afternoon shift and was filling in for "Batchy" for a couple of weeks and was on his way from Hobart up to Burnie to catch the toll ferry.
He has been with TasTrans for three years on and off as well as spending a few years with them previously, and he reckoned they were a great outfit to work for, and he liked the Star as well.
We also discussed the progress of the fires still burning all over the state and the magnificent job the firies were doing, and in particular the water- bombing helicopters flying with such precision under horrific conditions at times and saving so many homes.
