Team aims to travel without petrol
FROM Tasmania to Toowoomba to Norway without touching a petrol station.
That's the mission of the Green Way Up team, comprised of Bob Miles, Justin Hancock, Oscar Peppitt, Chuck Anderson and a small film crew.
The team stopped off in Toowoomba yesterday to collect oil and grease from local cafes and restaurants to convert into bio-diesel for its Land Rover Defender.
“The aim is to travel for six or seven months, from the bottom of Tasmania to the top of Norway, without stopping at a petrol station,” Mr Anderson said.
“We'll be using donated oil from restaurants and cafes to make our own bio-diesel for the trip,” Mr Miles added.
“It's not just a challenge for us; it's also aimed to get people thinking about sustainability without shoving a message down people's throats.”
Mr Hancock said the trip would be filmed for National Geographic and would also raise awareness of a number of sustainable projects.
Even the team's ocean travels will use a boat that runs on home-made bio-fuel.
“It's actually been quite easy for us to make bio-fuel,” Mr Anderson said.
“Everyone has been willing and happy to help us out by donating their cooking oil.”
