Talented young performers add some drama
AS the 2017 Mackay Eisteddfod enters its third week, it does not cease to bring fascinating performances by talented youth of the region.
Monday morning's performances on the main stage of the MECC theatre had a dark and mystic theme, with mime groups telling their stories in silence through body movements and facial expressions.
Students explored some of life's most challenging topics in their performances, which undoubtedly hit home for some in the audience.
'The Office' reflected on the boring and repetitive life of the modern day office worker. There was 'The Evolution of War' expressing the endless cycle of suffering that war brings and certainly topical to the day.
Another performance on war 'We Pay Tribute', showed respect to the fallen soldiers.
The audience was taken on a journey back to 1974 in the piece about Christmas eve in Darwin as Cyclone Tracy hit.
There was a classic Noah's Ark, which took out a first place, and 'One for the Road', a performance about unsafe drink-driving and the consequences it has for the driver, who survived but cannot forget.
The recital solos of classical Shakespearean pieces showed up and coming acting talents and proved that classics never run out of fashion.
In some ways the morning's performances were perhaps a reflection of what concerns most of us at this point in time.
