Talented students STEAM ahead into exciting futures
FIFTY-three talented Year 6,7 and 8 students from around the Gympie Region graduated from the 2016 James Nash State High School Middle School STEAM Excellence Program on Thursday, May 26.
Students were recognised for their efforts and engagement in the program at a special graduation ceremony at James Nash, where they were presented with their graduation certificates and 3D printed 'medals'.
The STEAM program is run in conjunction with the University of the Sunshine Coast and brings together passionate students to engage in cross-curricular academic activities which focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).
Expert teachers from James Nash and SSC have delivered exciting activities to the students over the five-week program, with learning experiences ranging from heart dissections in the laboratory, to battling 'judobots', to modelling and printing 3D objects.
James Nash acting principal Cheryl Greinke addressed students and families, recognising them for their dedication to the program, and congratulated students on the way they conducted themselves.
USC STEM Officer Sue Lanham highlighted the growing significance of STEM in today's society and classrooms, and impressed on students how important it is to remain engaged in these types of learning experiences - after all, they are preparing for jobs that don't even exist yet.
James Nash State High School remains committed to being a hub of educational excellence for all learners and, as such, is excited to offer a number of new programs.
A STEAM Excellence Program for Year 9 and 10 students will begin in July.
Interested students are encouraged to contact the school regarding this program.
The school will also be implementing a STEM Extension Program for Year 7 students in 2017.
Further information can be found in enrolment packages which can be obtained by contacting the school administration on 5480 6333.
