ENTERTAINMENT icon Noeline Brown was helping spread an important message in Rockhampton yesterday.

The well-known actress, who is the Australian Government's Ambassador of Aging, spoke at Suncare's Health and Wellbeing Carers Forum, held at the Frenchville Sports Club.

More than 100 people attended, which allowed carers to discuss strategies for enhancing their physical and mental wellbeing.

"Records show that the health of carers is very poor," said Noeline.

"These people are always taking care of someone else and don't have any time for themselves."

Suncare Health and Wellbeing facilitator, Doug Gambling, said there were more than a thousand carers in Central Queensland alone.

"This forum is about trying to empower people and build resilience," he said.

Noeline said her main message was that carers should be aware of their responsibility to themselves.

Noeline also encouraged carers to take time to do the little things.

"Go out for lunch or put on high heels," she said.

"Instead of giving everything to caring, give a percentage."

Noeline said there was plenty of financial support for carers, but a lot didn't know what was available.

"There are a lot of packages out there for people," she said.
