Take to the stage at the Brolga Theatre

IF YOU have ever wondered what it would be like to take centre stage at a major theatre then Maryborough Open House on September 27 gives you the chance.

The Brolga Theatre is one of the 32 participating buildings in the Open House event and will offer free guided backstage tours of this leading regional theatre complex during the day.

Fraser Coast Regional Council's cultural services manager Lisa Stephenson said it was a wonderful opportunity for an exclusive look behind the scenes of a working theatre.

"Tour goers will experience theatre from a whole new perspective by going backstage," she said.

"They can see the fly system working, visit the dressing rooms and even walk on the stage in the footsteps of many of the nation's most famous performers and entertainers.

"They will be escorted by our knowledgeable and informative guides who are all members of the Friends of the Brolga Group who will share the history of the site as well as interesting facts about the theatre and those who have performed here."

The tours will depart from the box office every half hour from 10am to 3.30pm and will run for 45 minutes.

There are limited spaces so bookings are recommend prior or on the day and can be made by phoning 4122 6060.

The Brolga will also host a free Renovation and Restoration Display in its foyer during Open House.

Hear from specialists and practitioners and see displays covering historic preservation, adaptive use, building restoration and maintenance and traditional crafts at the special display from 10am to 4pm.

Casual dining and drinks will be available during the day from the Brolga Theatre's Riverside Cafe.

The backstage tours and renovation and restoration display are part of a packed program of tours, events and self-guided trails being held across the weekend as part of Maryborough Open House.

The event, in its third year, is a free showcase of the city's impressive buildings and heritage sites.

Maryborough Open House is a joint initiative of the Fraser Coast Regional Council and the National Trust of Queensland, in partnership with Fraser Coast Opportunities.
