For Susie, it's recipe before the riches

IF YOU flip a coin to decide the winner of TV show Recipe to Riches, Susie Barnes will back tails every time.

The former Sunshine Coast resident whipped up her hearty oxtail stew to win the Classics recipe category and is through to the grand final. "I was enormously surprised," she said.

"I auditioned because I love the concept of the program and it was all about the story behind the recipe," Susie said.

"My mum had died three months before and I thought, 'Wouldn't it be a fantastic thing to do to honour her?'

"It was something she cooked for us as children and now I cook it for my children and friends."

Susie, 62, said that of the hundreds of recipes in her repertoire, she was "really known" for her oxtail stew.

"This is the one people remember me by and love," she said.

The final category of Recipe to Riches will air on Channel 10 on Tuesday, before the grand final the following week.

The winner of Recipe to Riches is decided by who has sold the most of their product.

Susie's Butcher's Secret Oxtail Stew will be available at Woolworths in store and online until midnight tomorrow. "It was quite humbling for me to see my recipe with my brand name on the shelf in Woolies," she said.
