Surat Basin group launch
INDUSTRY, government and community representatives will gather at Parliament House today to witness and celebrate the official launch of the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise Pty Ltd.
Following recommendations from the Toowoomba Regional Council Economic Development Advisory Board last year, the Toowoomba Regional Enterprise was formally registered in January 2012.
Shortly afterwards, the organisation merged successfully with the Surat Basin Corporation and from May 1, 2012 the Toowoomba and Surat Basin Enterprise Pty Ltd was born.
The result has been the establishment of a unified voice for the regional powerhouse that is the Surat Basin.
TSBE is an independent business driven organisation with a vision to pursue sustainable growth and diversity within the region through proactively linking business with opportunity and advocating strategically on matters concerning infrastructure and economic development.
TSBE worked with the LNP government prior to the election in relation to the $5,000,000 business case for the Western Freight Corridor Business, has facilitated numerous meetings between industry and government and represented the region on a national and international level.
TSBE chief executive officer Shane Charles, who was recently appointed as a commissioner of the GasFields Commission, is well versed with the region's business community and has hit the ground running.
"The future success of our region largely depends on our capacity to work together with a genuine intent for the future betterment and prosperity of our community," Mr Charles said.
"The support TSBE has received from industry and both the Local and State levels of government has been phenomenal and is indicative of the level of commitment this region has to creating its own destiny and taking a proactive approach to shaping its own future."
Minister for Agriculture and Member for Toowoomba South John McVeigh said the TSBE is an important organisation for our area.
"As a former Toowoomba Regional City Councillor I was involved like so many other people at the start of forming this organisation and it is great to see how far it's come and what it can achieve for our area," Mr McVeigh said.
"The Toowoomba and Surat Basin Region is rich with possibility, from agriculture to education to natural resources and the TSBE will play a critical role in the region to get the best out of those opportunities."
The official launch will commence at 5pm at Parliament House today.
Minister John McVeigh will MC proceedings and is to be joined during formalities by TSBE chairman John Wagner, Toowoomba Regional Council Mayor Paul Antonio and Premier Campbell Newman who will officially launch TSBE.
