Sunflower Pig hits Toowoomba

A SQUARE pink pig covered in yellow sunflowers wants your spare change to help erect the newest artistic addition to Toowoomba's skyline.

Heritage Building Society this week released a limited edition "Sunflower Pig" money box to Toowoomba primary schools to help raise funds for the huge metal sunflower tribute now taking shape at Picnic Point

The 5.4-metre tall artwork is a giant sunflower silhouette scroll of burnished metal imbedded in rock. It will be permanently erected in Lions Park on Tourist Road at Picnic Point.

The sculpture is a three-way tribute, honouring the Garden City of Toowoomba, our magnificent educational institutions and the late Mr Ian Orford's commitment to the city and community through his roles as a Councillor and Lions Club member.

The tribute is a community project, coordinated by Toowoomba-based non-profit organization Group Dymamcs, which relies on community funding.

As a supporter of this project, Heritage has distributed 500 Sunflower Pig money boxes to a number of primary schools in and around Toowoomba.

The schools are encouraged to fill the money boxes with small change. When added together, those donations will make a big difference to this striking community project.

Stage 1 of the "Sunflower tribute" will be unveiled at Lions Park at 3pm on Saturday, 8 October. Stage 2 will follow in 2012 when the finishing touches are completed.

Donations can be made at any Heritage Building Society branch or at the Sunflower Tribute website at www.sunflowertribute.com.au.
