Subpoena scam sparks warning by federal police
THE Australian Federal Police has issued a warning in response to a scam email which purports to be from the organisation.
The email claims to be serving a subpoena on the recipient, complete with a case number, date and a warning that they must provide all relevant information within 15 days.
It contains several links which are believed to be malicious.
"We've been receiving quite a few calls from the public in relation to an email that's doing the rounds," an AFP spokesman said.
"Don't click on them. Just delete the email from your Inbox and Deleted folder.
"The AFP does not issue subpoenas via email."
If you're concerned you've responded to one of these emails, you can report it through the ACORN (www.acorn.gov.au) or to SCAMwatch (www.scamwatch.gov.au)
