Students honour NAIDOC Day
NAIDOC Day was celebrated in a festival of traditional dance, art, song and story telling at the Gympie Civic Centre.
Students from Gympie South State School and Gympie State High joined in the program to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and recognise 50 years since the signing of the Yirrkala Bark Petitions.
The day included entertainment from didgeridoo player Lyndon Davis and the Maka Torres Strait Islander Band and dancers.
The week finishes tonight with the annual NAIDOC dinner dance featuring Rabbit & The Travelling Aboriginal Band as well as Murriaoke (karaoke with a twist).
