Move aside MasterChef, these teens have you baked

MUCH like an episode of MasterChef, these year 10 students will be tested on their food skills this weekend.

The St Saviour's College students will take part in the Junior Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge on Saturday.

Working in teams of two, the challenge involves preparing and plating a meal featuring chicken and "visible" fruit in 90 minutes.

Teacher Barbara Wuersching said the girls had been preparing for a few months for the competition.

"The judges are from the Gold Coast and members of the Australian Culinary Federation," she said.

The teams will plate two different chicken dishes, one featuring orange and the other cherries.

Other schools participating in the challenge include Centenary Heights State High School, Toowoomba State High School, Stanthorpe State High School and St Ursula's College.

The winning team from this weekend will then compete at the state finals at the Brisbane Ekka next month.
