Street party brings back holiday spirit

MONTO Rotary Club took over the Christmas Street Party on Friday night with the goal of focusing on Christmas spirit.

For the past few years, the town's Christmas functions have been run by the Apex Club but this year Rotary offered to take it on for the first time in more than 10 years.

The street party kicked off at 5pm and featured children's rides, market stalls and a sausage sizzle provided by Rotary.

Rotary club president Neal Darlington said they wanted to make it more about having fun at Christmas.

"Not a bad turnout, I've seen better but all the important people were there and it turned out like it should have,” Mr Darlington said.

Additionally, the party raised $1500 on gross for the Royal Flying Doctors.

Cafe Delicious's Jenny Forsyth, who co-ordinated the event, said the focus was less on the after-hours trading compared to previous years, which was optional for businesses this year.

"The idea was just to get everyone together and have a good time, because it's been a pretty hard year,” she said.

"We made lots of sponsorship money, which let us do the kids' rides for frees and the prizes were all donated by local businesses.”
