Stranded truckies blast flood-prone Bruce Highway

TRUCKIES left stranded in Ingham after the Bruce Highway was severed by floodwaters have blasted the sorry state of the road.

In chaotic scenes in Ingham Friday afternoon, the Townsville Bulletin reported cars and trucks stopped in the town reduced traffic to one lane, blocking access to some local businesses.

Police have since cleared the lane but many hundreds of motorists were still trapped in their cars further north.

Cairns truckie Jon Bowman, who transports cars and boats between Townsville and Cairns on an almost daily basis, said enough was enough.

"This is the first time I've been stuck, even during the Townsville floods, I managed to get through on low tides," he said.

It was not acceptable for Australia's main road to be cut off because it rained, he said.
