Storm boom time for TV repairs

SUMMER storms have dumped a post-Christmas rush on a Sunshine Coast television repair business.

Sunland TV Service at Maroochydore has been hit with a bumper crop of televisions needing repairs after lightning strikes and power outages.

Service manager Gary Tulk said the strong winds also had wreaked havoc with antennae and high humidity was affecting electronics.

"It's normal at this time of year to be extremely busy with the storm season," he said.

Nando Strano, the owner of Sunland TV and Noosa TV and Video, said that while lightning strikes could char cabling and appliances, most problems were caused by power outages from static charges.

Mr Strano said 80% of sets that went off in storms would switch back on and reset.
