UPDATE WEDNESDAY 10.50AM: ACTING Inspector for Rockhampton Police Ben Carroll this morning confirmed a person of interest has been nominated over the Stockland Rockhampton assault and rocking incident on Monday night. 

Act Insp Carroll said police were looking for a 12-year-old suspect in relation to the incident, which saw a Stockland security guard assaulted and damage caused by rocks which were thrown by a group of up to nine juveniles. 

EARLIER: STOCKLAND Rockhampton vow to increase centre security over the festive season to ensure their customers are safe.

Following the incident of a security guard being attacked by up to nine youths last night, the local shopping centre have been working with police to resolve the issue.

Stockland Rockhampton Centre Manager Nathanial Barbagallo said he was grateful to the security team for their vigilance and quick response to the incident which occurred last night.

"Our absolute priority is to ensure Stockland Rockhampton remains a safe and inviting place for customers to shop and socialize," he said.

"Our customers' safety and wellbeing is our highest priority, followed by the protection of property."

"We have the appropriate physical and electronic security measures in place throughout our shopping centre's to ensure we maintain a safe and secure environment for customers, retailers and our staff."

Mr Barbagallo said he encouraged customers and retail staff to immediately report any future incidents to police or centre management.

"We will be increasing security in and around the centre over the Christmas and holiday trading period," he said.

"The Police's investigations are ongoing and we are providing our full assistance to their inquiries and we will continue to work with Police and social agencies to address the issue."
