Still riding after six decades
EQUESTRIAN: At 67 years of age, Maree Edwards has been around horses for as long as she can remember.
Her passion for horses started as a little girl when her father taught her to ride on their family farm.
Now with six decades of experience under her belt, Edwards is no stranger to taking home ribbons at the end of a show weekend and this competition proved no different.
Winning Supreme Hack of the Show and Novice Dressage at the Charleville Show, Edwards and horse Markone pranced around in delight after competing against two other champion riders to claim the ultimate title.
"Even if its not our day, Markone just tries and tries,” Edwards said. "He just never gives up which pushes me to keep going.”
Having been riding Markone for the past three years, the Charleville-based dynamic duo have shown they are a force to be reckoned, taking home 18 gold medals in the Alice Springs Masters Competition last year.
"It's always thrilling to win, but mostly I'm proud of how Markone performs,” Edwards said.
Winning medals and ribbons after a tough competition is just icing on the cake, with Maree's love of horses the main reason she is still riding after so many years.
"I just adore horses and Mark has such a beautiful soul,” Edwards said. "He's truly a delight to own.”
