State honours for Bald Eagles

AUSSIE RULES: A trio of Whitsunday locals will be pitted against the best masters Australian rules players in the country this weekend.

Mick Murtagh, Jack Lumby and Rob Davis have nearly 150 years of football under their collective belts but the hunger to cross the white line lives on.

The Bald Eagles' players will represent Queensland at the National Masters AFL Carnival in Tasmania from Sunday.

"The national carnival brings players together from all states and territories to be grouped in five-year increments from over-35 through to over-60s. We play at least three games of football over the eight days and the wear and tear upon our bodies takes its toll by the week's end," Bald Eagles' president Jack Lumby said.

"The thrill of representing your state never fades."

Having plied their trade in the tropics, the local conditions in Launceston will be a complete contrast of what the trio is used to.
