Stars take to Tony Award red carpet in dramatic fashion

THE 67th annual Tony Awards have taken place at Radio City Music Hall in New York, with a bevy of stars showing up to recognise the achievements of their fellow Broadway actors.

The ceremony, hosted by 'How I Met Your Mother' star Neil Patrick Harris, saw 80s pop-icon Cyndi Lauper clean up for scoring Broadway musical 'Kinky Boots' - but as usual, our eyes were on the fashion.

The red carpet was a showcase of this season's fashion trends, with many stars rocking the latest looks from the catwalk.

The ravishing Scarlett Johansson stole the show in a gorgeous little black dress by Yves Saint Laurent with a lace top panel and a sleek black blazer teamed with a very trendy burgundy lip.

Actress Laura Benanti showed us all how it's done in one of the biggest colours of the season, cobalt blue, while 'Pitch Perfect' star, Anna Kendrick, looked sophisticated and polished in a black and navy strapless creation with mesh inserts, showcasing how the ruffle trend is meant to be worn.

Teaming her gown with an elegant up style, a smoky eye and minimalist jewellery, she managed to work the busy dress to perfection.

Actress Jane Krakowski shone in a floor-length shimmering silver sequined number with a V-neckline, embracing this season's metallic trend; while actress Krysta Rodriguez looked stunning in a very on trend burgundy asymmetrical floor length dress with a thigh-high split.

The men also impressed, with Hollywood hottie Jake Gyllenhaal and hunky 'Chuck' actor Zachary Levi looking very dapper in the classic black suit and bow-tie combo.

On the other end of the scale, actress Cicely Tyson turned heads for the wrong reasons in a deep purple monstrosity that brought home that too much of a good thing can be bad for you - the long-sleeved dress covered head-to-toe in vertical ruffles looked ridiculous, even for the Tony Awards.
