Production brings Second World War tribute to stage

MICHAEL Veitch will transform into Second World War pilots in his production Flak.

You may have seen Mr Veitch in Fast Forward or Full Frontal but for this performance he will take on a more sombre role.

His one-man show is based on the stories of five Second World War pilots he interviewed.

LAUNCH of the Spirit of ANZAC Centenary Experience

"Their stories are amazing," Mr Veitch said.

"There's five characters and I become them, with a piece of me woven into it. It's a tribute to what they did."

Mr Veitch said he has had a lifelong interest in pilots' war tales.

"I've had the fascination with this since boyhood," he said. "I spoke to the old men themselves about what they did and really enjoyed talking to them."

He said he'd interviewed around 50 men for both of his books, Fly and Flak.

"I had to select a representative sample of them," Mr Veitch said.

Connecting with show-goers had become an important element of his performances in each town, he said.

"After the show is amazing. I sign my books after the show and people come to me with their own stories," Mr Veitch said.

He'll lead an author's talk at noon on April 11 at the Mackay City Library foyer, followed by the show at the MECC on the same day at 7.30pm.
