Spotlight calls for young eisteddfod performers

WITH the Gladstone Eisteddfod just under two weeks away, Gladstone youngsters are preparing anxiously for their moment on stage.

Sophie Lennon and Abbey Hurworth, both 8, will perform a duo poetry recital.

The two have become friends since meeting at the eisteddfod.

Sophie has competed for the past three years and Abbey the past two.

"I like that you just have to do your best," Sophie said.

Abbey is looking forward the most to her mime and group improvisations.

"We get to work with the big kids," she said.

The pair has worked with speech and drama coach Beth Jones since the start of the year.

"We look at different readings at the start of the year and usually by the end of Term 1 we have chosen what they will perform," she said.

Abbey will also compete in ballet and jazz sections and Sophie is looking forward to performing in the instrumental.

The Gladstone Eisteddfod will start on September 3.
