South Burnett kindy closes its doors

THE Lady Gowrie Wondai Community Kindergarten has closed its doors for the year today and they will not reopen next year.

CEO of the organisation, Louisa Jackson, said the decision to close the early learning centre had been made due to a lack of enrolments.

"The numbers and enrolments in last three years have failed to reach over nine children,” she said.

"We had four on the waiting list and its viability was something that had to be considered.”

Parents were notified of the closure up to eight weeks ago and no resources from the centre will be removed.

The Lady Gowrie centre will be hosting playgroup once a week in 2019 to be facilitated by current staff.

The kindergarten supports the reforming of the Wondai Kindergarten Community Organisation.

Ms Jackson said Lady Gowrie would support the community group re-opening the centre in 2020 and would assist with recruiting staff.

Mother Kate's Early Learning Centre, which is government funded, will continue to operate in Wondai in the new year.
