SOS: Save Our Swans

OFF the field the Coffs Swans are in a very strong position. At the moment that strength is not matched on it.

The AFL team currently has 10 senior players on their books and 15 reserve grade players and is looking to boost their numbers.

The club's under-18 coach and committee member Rod Mapleson said the search is on for players willing to join the red and whites at Fitzroy Oval so it can field a team in three grades this year.

"If we can pick up 10 players we'll be right," Mapleson said.

"There's five kids in the under-18s who are able to make the step up but a few more older blokes is what we need."

Off the field the club has never been stronger.

The Swans contributed $25,000 to a new set of lights at their home ground last year and have already put in place qualified coaches, strappers, medicos and physiotherapists for 2013.

Add to that the strong social culture at the Pier Hotel and the Swans believe they believe have a club worth joining.

Mapleson pointed out joining the Swans this year has an added positive aside from being at an organised outfit.

"You're guaranteed a game of footy every week, there's little chance of you being an emergency and sitting on the sidelines," he said.

Players interested in playing for Coffs Swans this year should contact Mapleson on 0400 518 555 or Alan Clayton on 0400 329 863.

Alternatively they can show up to training on a Tuesday or Thursdau night at Fitzroy Oval.
