Slipper's spending habits no secret

PETER Slipper's big spending ways were "well-known" to the Sunshine Coast community, LNP candidate for Fisher Mal Brough said.

"It is all there in black and white for the community to decide," Mr Brough said.

"The community have already made up their mind up about Mr Slipper."

The Sunshine Coast MP (pictured) made headlines again yesterday after reportedly pocketing $173,000 for entertaining dignitaries since he was last in Parliament almost 190 days ago.

He has also made four overseas trips using taxpayer funds.

Now, with his salary costing taxpayers almost $1000 a day, Mr Slipper has made plans for another trip overseas: to Canada and Argentina.

Mr Slipper was chosen to lead a delegation of federal MPs to an "Inter-Parliamentary Union" meeting, which aimed to improve relationships between countries and parliaments as well as promoting best practice by the Australian Parliament.

But a News Ltd report said delegates had raised questions about Mr Slipper leading such trips, given he was facing allegations that he sexually harassed his young male adviser James Ashby.

The Sunshine Coast MP has been on full pay since he was stood down as Speaker after public outrage against him.

Mr Slipper is also under investigation by the Sunshine Coast Daily over his record on spending taxpayers' money on interstate and overseas trips, Comcars and taxis.

He has regularly flown to Canberra via Sydney with taxi records showing late-night visits to restaurants and drinking venues.

He is facing an ongoing Australian Federal Police investigation over allegations that he claimed expenses he was not entitled to claim.
