SIX terror suspects have been arrested on an Indonesian island for allegedly planning an attack against Singapore.

Indonesian police said the six were arrested on Batam Island, where it is alleged they had planned to launch a rocket attack on Singapore's popular Marina Bay.

"What we understand so far is that they were planning to attack vital objects, busy areas including police offices," Indonesian police spokesman Agus Rianto told reporters.

Mr Rianto said the group were also suspected of having links to Bahrun Naim, an Indonesian fighting for the Islamic State (IS) group in Syria.

He said police had obtained information that the suspects had been plotting to attack Singapore via Batam, which is about 15 kilometres south of Singapore.
