Simon says 'I do' to hairdo on Married at First Sight
CURLS may get the girls, but Simon McQuillan ditched his luscious locks in his quest for love.
The hair had been a sticking point between the Booval-based trucks part manufacturer and his Married At First Sight bride Alene Khatcherian, but Simon said he decided to bite the bullet when he was put on the spot in the Surrender date.
After getting a new wardrobe, Simon said his guard went up when he and Alene ended up in a hair salon.
"I kept on saying, 'you don't have to keep on changing me. I'm still the same person at the end of the day',” he told the QT.
"This doesn't change my morals or my background, or where I see myself going in the future just by some fuzzy stuff sitting on the top of my head.”
But after a heated discussion, Simon relented.
And what did he think when he saw the new do?
"It knocked me for a bit of a sixer,” he said.
"I actually didn't recognise myself because it's been a few years since I've had a haircut.
"There was a lot more grey than there was there last time.
"It caught me off guard.”
Alene loves the new look, but Simon stressed the haircut was a mutual decision, not an ultimatum.
"It's not like she said, 'It's my way or the highway',” he said.
"No, we were both involved in that.”
Simon said he was keen to move on and get to know Alene on a personal level, something he had been enjoying.
"She calls a spade a spade and is very caring in regards to what lies ahead,” he said.
"She acts upon the reasoning, similar to me, you only live once and there's no point of going 'if only...'”
And, as Simon said, his hair will grow back no matter what happens.
Married At First Sight continues Tuesday at 7.30pm on Channel 9.
