Update, 2.04pm: There will be a ballot for the leadership of the Labor Party today at 4.30pm.

Initial report 1.11pm: Justine Elliot's office was not commenting on whether the Member for Richmond would continue to back the Prime Minister just moments before Simon Crean called for a spill.

At approximately 1pm Simon Crean called for a spill of all Labor Party positions.

Mr Crean said it was not personal but was for the good of the party.

He said Kevin Rudd had no choice but to run for the position as Prime Minister

Mr Crean said he will be backing Kevin Rudd.

This morning her office deflected questions about the possibility of a change of leadership.

"We don't comment on polls. We don't comment on internal machinations of the party," a spokesperson for the Member said.
