Show sweet hard to swallow
GYMPIE dad Brad Erickson wants showbag manufacturers to explain why Mentos lollies with the words "For Indonesia Only" are being sold to kids around the country.
Mr Erickson said his twins, daughter Breanna and Joshua Thornley-Erickson, both aged 6, found the lollies in a Jumbo Candy bag at the Gympie Show.
"It's all made overseas. How does it get through Customs?" he asked.
It is the standards overseas that he is most worried about.
"What about the health and hygiene standards of where they're making it?"
Mr Erickson said it was "not good enough" for the $10 showbag and wonders why Australian products were not used.
Showbag Corner director Belinda Whitby said there was nothing wrong with the "parallel imported" products.
"They have the correct labelling, listings and ingredients," she said.
"It's safe and legal to sell in Australia."
Ms Whitby said the food had been submitted to and passed by Queensland Health's Public Health unit for food safety.
"We're not the only ones that sell them in the country. Everything is perfectly legal for the Australian market."
