Share the glee by joining singing group
ENID Williams is a big believer in the power of music and after 60 years in the Grafton Glee Singers group, you can understand why.
"Music does a lot for you when you're down," Mrs Williams said
She said the members were all just as passionate about the singing group and its benefits to not only the singers, but the wider community.
"We really look forward to it because when you get to our age, there is not a great deal of things you can do but this fills that gap," she said.
"There's nothing like music if you're sad."
The group often sings to the residents in local retirement homes, as well as over- 50s clubs.
"Sometimes they'll get up and dance down the aisle or clap their hands and tap their feet and that makes it good for us that we made their afternoon," Mrs Williams said.
But for a club doing so much good, on the other side of the coin there is a sad tale of a reduction in members.
"It hasn't grown; it's fading and I don't understand why," Mrs Williams said.
"Everyone who comes here gets so wrapped up in it and they love it."
And so the Glee Singers are on the hunt for new members to keep the club alive.
"The young ones can come in too; they're definitely welcome," Mrs Williams said.
"And if we can get enough men we could form the men's section again because we only have one man at the moment."
If you would like to join up or find out more about the Glee Singers, give Mrs Williams a bell on 6642 1686 or head around to the CWA rooms, cnr Duke and Pound Sts, on a Thursday afternoon from 1.30-3pm when they rehearse.
