SHE was being pushed back by the crowd, but this 91-year-old wasn't going to let that stop her from seeing her favourite boys.

June Linnane, 91, was with her daughter Leonie Robertson-Hughes, when they were waiting in the crowd at the Queensland Maroon fan day on Tuesday; being the small woman that she was she was easily lost in the crowd as fans jumped forward to greet Greg Inglis.

But suddenly, the popular football made a beeline for June and moved his way through the crowd, and right towards her.

FOR 22 years Janet Nielsen has offered this lovely smiling face to all those who walk through the doors of Family Crust Bakery.

But today is the bakery owner's last, after she sold the West Gladstone business to another Gladstone local.

Janet said she's looking forward to having her weekends free, being able to paint her house and travel around the country.

Bird selfie fun at seniors trip

FOR KEN Watson, taking a selfie with a tropical imported bird was one of the highlights of his trip to Cairns last month.

He, along with more than 40 other members of the National Senior's branch in Gladstone visited Bird World as part of the group's annual trip. From late night dinner cruises, walks along the esplanade, a visit to a butterfly enclosure and a drop by the Daintree, these seniors didn't waste any time on their holiday.

Food van opens in motel garden space

THE empty cafe building, formerly Breezes, overlooking the Boyne River has long prompted questions like "do you own this", "why is there no food offered here" to a nearby hotel owner.

But now, Boyne Island Motel and Villas owner Helen Grant can reply spruiking their own food venture.

A food van now parks at the motel's garden area, offering meals to locals and tourists.

WITH the development of the Calliope Shopping Centre inching closer to its completion date in August, rumours have been circulating about what shops will go where.

From Monday both Alive Pharmacy and the Calliope Medical Centre will open their doors upin their brand new spots.

The pathology unit isn't far off moving in either, and there is at least one other business lined up to move in, and developer Mark Long is in talks with another for the new shop spaces.

Mayor spruiks Baffle Beer at Parliament

 

 

GLADSTONE mayor Matt Burnett has left state politicians "baffled" by what's on offer in the Southern Great Barrier Reef region.

Mr Burnett has been at Parliament House for a Bundaberg Region Promotion event, highlighting what's on offer in the Agnes Water, Seventeen Seventy and Baffle Creek areas.

Baffle Beer owner Bert Kangler also attended, making sure all the politicians tried his unique drop of beer.
