Thunderstorms forecast for Surat, Miles and St George

UPDATE: The latest data from the Bureau of Meteorology warns that people in Surat, Miles and St George can expect severe thunderstorms.

The storms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones over the next several hours.

EARLIER: The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a severe thunderstorm warning for people in parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Maranoa, Warrego and Darling Downs and Granite Belt Forecast Districts.

BOM say the storms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones.

Locations which may be affected include Roma, St George, Bollon, Mitchell, Dirranbandi and Injune.
 

Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:

  • Move your car under cover or away from trees.
  • Secure loose outdoor items.
  • Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters.
  • Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
  • Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
  • Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
  • For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.
