Services to be shifted from Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre
INCORPORATING the range of services currently offered at the Gin Gin Neighbourhood Centre into the environment at the nearby Regional Council Service Centre will provide a greatly enhanced delivery of community services for the Gin Gin community - according to Bundaberg Regional Council.
Bundaberg Regional Council Community Services portfolio spokeswoman Judy Peters said the current range of services offered at the Neighbourhood Centre would be moved to the Service Centre (the former Kolan Council offices) as of July 6.
"This is a move with positive outcomes all round for the local community with an enhanced range of services being offered from a location that is virtually a one stop shop," she said.
Cr Peters said the decision to shift the Neighbourhood Centre services was one of the good news stories to highlight an exciting year ahead in her Community Services portfolio.
"The relocation of the Neighbourhood Centre services will provide additional space for community activities as well as opening up possible commercial opportunities for council regarding the centre. The library will continue to function as normal from its current location at the Neighbourhood Centre."
Cr Peters said that despite the tough financial conditions surrounding the framing of the 2015/16 budget she was delighted that the range of community service programs delivered by the council would remain unaffected.
"It is of the utmost importance to council that areas that involve the provision of services to the elderly and our youth in particular are not compromised by budget constraints," she said.
"I know our staff work diligently to source funds to deliver a raft of community programs.
"I can advise that some $65,000 is available for programs under the regional Drought Events funding. This funding is not aimed at traditional support for drought affected farmers but canvasses a broad range of community welfare initiatives including senior's forums and community events and workshops.
"I am also pleased to see that in excess of $94,000 is available to continue support for the Isis Child and Family Support hub which delivers a range of essential services to families in the Childers area."
Cr Peters said the provision of festivals and events across the region ensured the council connected with the community in providing showcase events that were unifying and uplifting.
"Events like our Australia Day Spirit Awards, Chinese New Year, Welcome Baby, Childers Festival and Bundy Flavours as well as the artistic endeavours presented through BRAG and CHARTS ensures that communities have opportunities to enjoy the many fine things that add to the fabric of our society," she said.
"Council will maintain the great delivery of programs and services that have become an expected part of living in the Bundaberg region.
"Margaret Olsen Place, the Kolan Centenary Gardens and our Home and Community Care programs are just some of the areas of care funded and maintained by Council that allow people to remain in the local area close to family and friends."
